Hello, and welcome

Hello there, if you’ve gotten here, you must have at least a little interest in the Connecticut Sun. Or you’re a troll of some kind, which, hey do you think the Sun will will be able to survive much longer before getting bought or shipped up to Boston?

We’ll have plenty of time for that last question all summer, but for now, there didn’t seem to be a whole lot of coverage on the Sun on the web (or anywhere), so I figured I would give this a shot. You probably already know that the last few years have been nothing but success for the Sun, seven straight winning campaigns (with the exception of a pesky COVID shortened season in 2020) that sawthem right on the cusp of an elusive WNBA title every year.

One that never came, unfortunately.

To make it eight consecutive winning seasons, Connecticut will have to defy pretty much every prognostication and basic common sense. Six of the Sun’s top seven scorers from a team that went 28-12 last season and nearly beat Minnesota in the WNBA semifinals are gone. The only one left - Marina Mabrey - is doing everything she can to get out, as did several others before her. Sun legends Alyssa Thomas and DeWanna Bonner have moved on, and even fan favorite Dijonai Carrington is now in Dallas, leaving a brand new team.

Stephanie White, 2023 WNBA Coach of the Year, has gone to Indiana as well. The debacle over their practice facility as well as its location near nothing of significance has made the Sun a pariah among players and a laughingstock with media and fans of other teams.

This is not a place where we will sugarcoat such matters, some of it is warranted, and I hope to explore that as the season progresses, as well as how long the Sun can survive past 2025 in Connecticut. If they can at all.

But for now, the WNBA Draft is tonight, Rachid Meziane is going to do the best he can with the roster he is presented, and the season will be upon us.

What will you see here? Well, that remains to be seen, but I hope to have game previews and recaps, as well as some features and stories about the Sun’s future along the way. I hope to cover some games as time allows and get some first-hand quotes to see where the 2025 season goes.

Will it be successful on the court? Doesn’t look terribly likely at the moment, but it should be interesting regardless. Hopefully you’ll follow along.
